Do you work long hours or are you away from home for a lengthy amount of time?  If so, Do you come home to toilet paper strewn down the hall and chewed on, couch cushions with bits of material torn off or paper pulled out of the trash can and chewed up ?  Or maybe your dog stays outside, and has chewn a hole in the bottom of the fence trying to get out of the yard.  Your dog is not trying to be a bad dog, he is probably just bored.  

    Boredom and variety are always connected with a dog misbehaving. Yes. This is true.  Many a times, boredom can be managed with variety of materials that will distract the animals  to a greater extent.  Hence, the dog may not do the abnormal or unwanted activity arising out of the boredom experienced by it.

    Boredom experienced dogs may have different types of behavioral patterns.  If your dog is outside all the time it may be seen barking continuously and some may be engaged always in some digging activities. But if your dog is kept inside it is likely to make a big mess of things by getting into things in the house as noted above.

    There are many ways to get your dog out of its boredom activities. Many toys are available which simulated duck, dog, rodent etc.  These may be kept inside the house, outside, or even in a kennel, depending on where your dog stays most of the time that you are gone. In particular, puppies love these items.

     A treat ball with multiple treats may be placed in the dog’s living area and the animal soon understands on how to roll the treat ball to get the treats it prefers. A treat ball is an ingenious toy use for simulating and activating your dog during play and feed time.  Instead of placing the food monotonously in one place, change the place of feeding suddenly.

    Such actions will be helpful for removing the boredom like activity in your dog. Activities pertaining to boredom need to be redefined well by the dog owners.  This will help you pretty much drive away the unwanted behavior patterns in your dogs.

    For example, some dogs may often have destructive biting characters and will be seen biting chair, cloth, mats, and everything that can see. After ruling out  the teething problem if it is a puppy, provide  it with some large sized balls, mineral mixture based bone materials, etc. Such variety of materials help to reduce the boredom related activities.
